the bread here is worth arriving early for. usha cafe & bakery on jl. bumbak dauh in kerobokan has built something genuinely local in a stretch of kuta utara that sees a lot of passing trade, and the baked goods hold their own against the coffee, which is saying something. you don't come here just because it's convenient. the cafe side is taken seriously, and the bakery side isn't an afterthought, which is rarer than it should be in bali's crowded specialty scene. locals have figured that out, and the word has spread accordingly. if you're in the area mid-morning, the combination of something from the oven and a well-made coffee on jl. bumbak dauh is a reasonable argument for staying longer than you planned.
