world coffee roasting championship
green-bean evaluation, roast profile execution, and cupping defence — three rounds across two days.
what it is
The World Coffee Roasting Championship is the only WCE discipline judged on a finished product the competitor cannot taste-correct in real time. Roasters are given a set of green coffees and must evaluate, profile, and execute roasts that the judges then cup blind. The discipline rewards deep technical understanding of bean origin, density, moisture, and machine behaviour. Past champions include Hidenori Izaki, Tomoya Yokota, and Anne Lunell.
