besca besca bsc-1
the BSC-1 handles 0.2kg to 1kg batches with profile logging through Cropster or Artisan. it's positioned as either a sample roaster for larger operations or a starter production machine for very small cafes. the double-wall drum and 28kW burner give it more thermal stability than most machines this size, which matters when you're trying to maintain consistent heat through back-to-back sample roasts. cooling time of 2-3 minutes is quick for the capacity. the compact footprint (830mm x 800mm x 815mm) fits tight spaces. downsides: minimum batch of 0.2kg is still too large for true cupping samples, and 1kg maximum won't support even modest retail bag sales. roasting time of 7-13 minutes means you're doing maybe 4-5 kg per hour at best. it's a committed sample roaster or a proof-of-concept machine before you scale up, not a long-term production solution for a growing cafe.
what it does well
- good thermal mass for stable sample roasting
- quick 2-3 minute cooling
- direct cropster and artisan logging without proprietary software
- small footprint fits lab or corner installation
where it stops short
- 0.2kg minimum still too large for standard cupping samples
- 1kg maximum limits production use
- 7-13 minute roast times reduce throughput
- manual control only, no automation path
