chemex
the 1941 carafe peter schlumbohm patented. still right.
Chemex is the borosilicate carafe brewer designed by chemist Peter Schlumbohm in 1941. The thicker bonded paper filter (20–30% heavier than competitors) strips more oils and fines, producing a tea-like, clarity-forward cup. The hourglass shape and wooden collar are in MoMA's permanent collection.
