you can feel the seriousness the moment you walk in. colonna & small's opened in bath in 2009 after maxwell colonna-dashwood and lesley came back from melbourne with a very specific idea of what coffee could be. maxwell went on to win the uk barista championship three times, in 2012, 2014 and 2015, and the place was named best coffee shop in europe in 2016. he also co-authored actual water-science research with chemist christopher hendon. a second spot opened on london's leather lane in 2023. this is not background noise coffee.
