if you've been circling downtown eugene looking for somewhere to actually sit and work through a slow morning, grimes street tends to get overlooked. equator coffee co. operates out of suite 3 at 134 grimes, which puts it slightly off the reflex routes most people take, and that's probably part of why its regulars treat it the way they do. not a stopover. a destination you choose on purpose. the standing it holds in the community didn't come from foot traffic alone, it came from people coming back. eugene has no shortage of coffee options, but a roaster running its own retail space gives you a different relationship to what's in your cup than a shop pulling from a wholesale account. worth getting there before the late morning rush thins out the options.
