fire dept. coffee knows how to roast. that's not a small thing when you consider how many shops buy pre-roasted beans and call it a day. having the roasting facility on-site at 1311 harrison ave means the coffee you're drinking hasn't been sitting in a warehouse somewhere losing its edge. rockford doesn't get enough credit for what's happening in its specialty coffee scene, and places like this are a big reason why. the operation is independent, which means decisions about sourcing and roast profiles don't get made by a committee in another state. if you're in the poplar grove area and you haven't stopped here on a weekday morning, that's the easiest fix you'll make all week.
