london's specialty coffee scene doesn't owe you anything. it'll overwhelm you with options in shoreditch or bermondsey, then leave you hunting for something worth the trip when you're further west. lab coffee works, out in uxbridge at the charter building on charter place, is the kind of find that resets your expectations without making a ceremony of it. you don't stumble across a roaster operating at this level and walk away indifferent. the charter building location puts it in a part of greater london that doesn't carry the same coffee-culture shorthand as zones one or two, which is exactly what makes it interesting. the roasting side of the operation is the real draw, so if you're in uxbridge, go early, and go for the filter.
