if you're heading into alexandria for a slow morning before the rest of bourke road wakes up, mecca coffee is the kind of stop that actually justifies leaving the house early. the roastery side of things matters here: this isn't a venue that sources from someone else's warehouse and calls it a day. they roast their own, which means what ends up in your cup has a shorter, more accountable chain behind it. alexandria's industrial pocket suits that approach, all loading docks and quiet streets on a weekend, the neighbourhood not yet performing itself. you can pull up, order a cortado or a filter, and not feel like you're being rushed through it. locals treat it as a genuine anchor point on the south sydney specialty circuit, and that kind of quiet loyalty tends to be earned the slow way. worth an early visit to 26 bourke rd.
