you can trace barcelona's third wave scene pretty directly back to jordi mestre pushing a coffee cart around london's street markets in 2011. that's where nomad started, unglamorous and real. mestre won spain's national barista championship in 2012 and again in 2015, then opened the first barcelona lab in 2014. fran gonzalez heads up coffee now, and a second roastery, cal nomad, landed in poblenou in 2020. b corp certified since 2023. serious operation, serious coffee.
