tucson doesn't have a shortage of coffee, but it does have a shortage of places where the roasting actually happens on site and the sourcing gets taken seriously. raging sage on north campbell avenue has been holding that standard for a while now, and the local reputation didn't come from nowhere. you can walk in knowing someone upstream thought hard about what ended up in the bag. that matters more than most menus admit. the neighborhood itself is low-key, close to the university of arizona corridor, the kind of stretch where a good independent fits without performing. worth going before noon, when the pour-overs are moving and campbell is still quiet enough to actually sit with your thoughts.
