good coffee in oakland doesn't ask you to commute across the bay for it. roastco sits on 9th avenue, which puts you squarely in the kind of neighborhood where independent spots either figure out what they're doing or quietly disappear. this one has figured it out. the roasting operation is the whole point here, everything else follows from that commitment to sourcing and process rather than spectacle. you're not coming for atmosphere theater. the beans move through with real intention, and that shows in the cup without needing a lot of explanation from anyone behind the counter. worth going out of your way for, and 9th avenue is a reasonable place to end up on a weekday morning.
