osaka takes its coffee seriously, and not in a showy way. the city's independent roasting scene has built a quiet kind of authority over the years, with places that focus on the cup rather than the concept. sugihara coffee roaster sits in kadoma, out along hamamachi, a bit removed from the tourist circuits that pull people toward namba or shinsaibashi. that distance isn't a drawback. if you're willing to make the trip, you're probably the kind of person they're roasting for anyway. the regulars here are genuinely loyal, the sort of loyalty that doesn't come from convenience. kadoma isn't a destination neighborhood by default, which means everyone who ends up on hamamachi has a reason to be there.
