kaohsiung has been building a serious specialty coffee scene for years, quieter about it than taipei but no less committed. tama cafe on yongkang street in lingya district is one of the places that holds that reputation up. they roast in-house, which means what's in your cup was processed and prepared with a full line of accountability that a reseller just doesn't have. lingya isn't a tourist corridor, so the people who find their way here tend to actually want to be here. the regulars are loyal in the way that only happens when a place consistently delivers, and that consistency is harder to maintain when you're also sourcing and roasting your own beans. worth going for the afternoon filter, when the street outside slows down a little.
