your first sip at the barn will probably catch you off guard. based in berlin's prenzlauer berg, this is where germany's specialty coffee scene grew its spine, and the barn deserves credit for that. the beans are light-roasted to the point where you taste the actual fruit behind the coffee, bright and a little acidic in the best way, nothing like the dark bitter cups that still dominate most of europe. the ceramic feels good in your hand. the room is quiet and serious without being cold.
