the espresso is the reason to come here. the spice merchant & co operates as both roastery and cafe on east douglas avenue, which means what ends up in your cup was roasted close, not shipped in from some anonymous warehouse relationship. that matters more than people give it credit for. wichita's east douglas corridor has its own particular rhythm, and this spot fits into it without making a fuss about doing so. regulars here clearly know what they're returning for, and that kind of repeat loyalty doesn't develop around mediocre sourcing decisions. if you're figuring out where to start, pull a shot of espresso straight before you add anything to it. 1300 e douglas is the address. that's a good enough reason to point your car east.
