the S35 kestrel is loring's first model, launched in 2004, and it's been refined over two decades. it handles 8 to 35 kg batches in a 5.6 by 8 foot footprint. this is the machine for roasters doing 500 to 2,000 kg per week who need batch flexibility and want to avoid the cost and complexity of a separate afterburner. the single-burner system incinerates smoke internally, and you can roast half-bag lots or full 35 kg batches with consistent results. the kestrel ships with a C35 bean cart, touchscreen control, vacuum loading, and automated hopper and door. it's a workhorse for established specialty roasters and small commercial operations. the trade-offs are price, space, and heat. the kestrel costs more than a comparable drum, needs high ceilings and solid floors, and puts out significant heat during operation. if you're scaling past a 15 kg machine and care about fuel efficiency and emissions, the kestrel is proven. if you want a traditional drum experience, look elsewhere.
