the kind of place that pulls you away from the centro storico for a reason. bar ste.pi. sits on via lanzo, out in the 10148, a part of turin that moves at its own pace, away from the tourist circuits. if you're used to treating coffee bars as a quick stop, this one might slow you down a little. it's very strongly regarded by the people who keep coming back, and that kind of loyalty in a city that takes its coffee seriously means something. turin has always had a complicated, proud relationship with the bar culture it helped shape. a morning espresso here, on via lanzo, is a decent argument for getting off the main drag.
