fincas mierisch is a family-owned coffee operation based in nicaragua, now in its fifth generation, tracing roots to 1908. the company manages nine farms across the matagalpa and jinotega departments of nicaragua, and three farms in honduras, each with distinct microclimates and soil profiles. operations shifted from commercial to specialty coffee production in the early 1990s following the nicaraguan civil war. the fourth generation, including erwin jr. and the late eleane mierisch, played a significant role in the cup of excellence program from the early 2000s onward. erwin jr. currently serves as executive director of the alliance for coffee excellence. the farms produce microlots including named varietals such as geisha and javanica, with individual lots documented by farm, process, and variety. the san jose farm, at 46 hectares, is one identified growing site. cup of excellence placements confirm scores above 89 for recent nicaraguan lots. the fifth generation is active in quality control and client relations. fincas mierisch sells direct to roasters and works with international buyers seeking traceable, farm-specific nicaraguan and honduran green coffee.
