about San Marcos Coffee — Aida Batlle Selection

aida batlle is a fifth-generation coffee producer farming three family estates, fincas los alpes, kilimanjaro, and mauritania, in the santa ana region of el salvador. she won the cup of excellence in 2003 with kilimanjaro, with los alpes placing 16th the same year. since 2009, she has run the aida batlle selection (abs) program in partnership with exporter j. hill and co., a santa ana-based exporter founded in 1890, to identify and certify exceptional lots from el salvador. lots carrying abs certification have been used by roasters in international barista and roaster competitions. aida batlle selection has also partnered with ecom to extend sourcing into mexico and other origins. the program offers microlots across a range of processing styles including washed, natural, honey, and experimental methods. available lot sizes documented include 20 kg and 69 kg units, suggesting the program sells at small-lot rather than container scale. aida batlle is also known for cascara and experimental processing work developed with roaster partners. buyers purchasing through abs work with j. hill and co. as the exporting party in el salvador.
