the filter coffee is worth your attention here, not as an afterthought but as the actual point of the visit. albatross sits in rosedale, which isn't the part of auckland that gets written about much, triton drive being more industrial park than cafe strip, so the fact that people make the trip says something. this is a roastery operation, which means what ends up in your cup has been thought about from considerably earlier in the process than most places bother with. the regulars are genuinely devoted, not in a casual way. if you're deciding between espresso and filter, go filter, especially in the morning before the day gets complicated.
