not every suburb on the hibiscus coast gives you a reason to slow down, but whangaparaoa road has one. kōhīya coffee shop sits at the stanmore bay end of things, a roaster taking the work seriously enough that people out here have made it a fixture rather than a fallback. that matters more than it sounds. if you're making the drive up from the city, or you already live somewhere along this stretch of coast, the gap between a place that genuinely roasts and one that just brews is obvious fast. the locals who keep coming back aren't doing it out of habit. whatever you order, the flat white on a weekday morning is probably the move.
