the IR-2.5 sits in an awkward middle position, too large for pure sample roasting but too small for serious production volume. at 0.5kg to 2.5kg batch capacity, you could supply a small cafe or online subscription business, but you'll be roasting constantly to keep up with growth. the manual controls match the IR-1, meaning no profile logging or automation, just you and the machine learning together. this works fine if you're committed to hands-on roasting and have the time to develop manual skills. the infrared burner delivers the same consistent heat as other diedrich models. where this machine makes sense is for someone starting very small with plans to eventually move to an IR-5 or IR-12, using the 2.5 to build customer base and skills before investing in larger equipment. as a permanent solution, most roasters either need less capacity and go with a true sample roaster, or more capacity and jump to 5kg.
