the verdict

the s9x scales up to 1kg batches while keeping the same automated profile system and hybrid electric heating as the s7 pro. it's aimed at small roasteries, multi-location cafe groups, or anyone outgrowing sample roaster capacity but not ready for a full production machine. the larger batch size makes it more practical for weekly production in the 5 to 10kg range, and the automated cooling and chaff handling reduce labor between batches. stronghold's triple heat system (convective, conductive, radiant) is supposed to improve bean development evenness, which matters more as batch size increases. the main limitation is still the automation: if you prefer adjusting heat and airflow manually based on what you're hearing and smelling, the s9x doesn't give you as much latitude as a traditional drum roaster. it's best for roasters who value consistency and reproducibility over hands-on control, or for operations where multiple people need to produce identical results without deep roasting experience.
