about waihiga coffee estate

waihiga coffee estate is a family-owned farm founded in 1952, located in kianjogu village, karatina, in the nyeri region of kenya. the estate covers approximately 10 acres with around 9,000 trees, sitting at altitudes between 1700 and 1800 metres above sea level. the farm grows sl28, ruiru 11, batian, and sl grafted varieties on volcanic soils fed by rainfall averaging 1500mm annually, in proximity to mount kenya and river sagana. waihiga offers four processing methods, washed, natural, anaerobic, and honey, with all lots sundried and finished in a traditional greenhouse. the farm produces graded lots including aa, ab, and peaberry, with cup report scores consistently reaching class 3 and 4 plus across those grades. the estate uses organic farming methods and a recycling approach to processing byproducts. waihiga sells as a single-origin, direct-from-farm producer. the farm has a q grader on staff, enabling in-house green coffee evaluation against sca cupping protocols. waihiga is suited to roasters sourcing traceable kenyan lots with defined processing options and verifiable cup scores.
