Nossa Familia Coffee

nossa familia coffee is a portland, oregon-based importer and roaster founded in 2004 by augusto carneiro, whose family has farmed coffee in brazil for over a century. the company began as a family-trade operation importing directly from that brazilian family farm and has since expanded sourcing to include guatemala, nicaragua, peru, and ethiopia. all sourcing runs through channels the company has personally evaluated, and in most cases they have visited the farm, farmer, or cooperative, sometimes on an annual basis. when direct visits are not possible they work with vetted partners such as portland-based sustainable harvest and guatemala-based non-profit de la gente. nossa familia holds usda organic handling certification through oregon tilth, allowing them to sell certified organic roasted coffee. two certified organic coffees are currently offered: one sourced from the upc cooperative in huehuetenango, guatemala, and one from peru. additional producer partners may use organic or regenerative practices without formal certification. the company holds b corp certification and sources coffees that may carry utz, bsca, or fair trade certifications. they operate three retail and production locations in portland and employ between 11 and 50 people. minimum order volumes and container availability are not publicly specified.
