your first sip of big sur's yunnan single origin hits somewhere between a sun-dried ethiopia and something you can't quite place, earthy and bright at the same time, the cup cooling slowly in your hands while you figure it out. they're roasting chinese-grown coffee at a moment when yunnan's high-altitude farms are finally getting serious attention, and big sur is paying close attention too. the beans smell faintly of dried fruit before the water even touches them. shanghai hasn't always had this.
