good london coffee has a way of concentrating in pockets you'd almost miss, and ferndale road in brixton is one of those pockets. assembly coffee has built a real reputation here, the kind that spreads through a neighbourhood without much announcement. you're not dealing with a concept or a brand exercise, just a roaster that takes its sourcing and its output seriously enough that people keep coming back. the sw9 postcode isn't the most obvious destination for a coffee pilgrimage, which is probably part of why it works, the regulars here found it themselves. if you're in brixton, make time for it before the afternoon rush, when the pace is slower and the filter options tend to be worth asking about.
